bob: Workers are back working on the new students union building.. the snow was nice but slowed down the building work!
delboy: about time too! lol just kidding.. good pics ![]() |
Bob: Hi construction fans.. sorry for the gap in the news.. I've updated the treforest building and in the news section there's pictures of the airoplane that has been delivered. Tyn-y-wern photos coming sooooon!
whitby2000: heya all, any chance of afew pics of the union developments?
Karate Kid: So why has there not been any new updates on here as the steel structure of the union is being put up and starting to take shape?
bob: I'm sure the University know exactly what they're doing. staff are being laid off, really?
Abby: I think it's a bit stupid for all this money to be spent when the university is making budget cuts elsewhere, where money is really needed...so many staff are being laid off, the library is cutting its book buying budget by half. Stupidity!!!
glamSU: Hi Seb, if you mean the new union building then it will be ready in Sept. 2010. This year we'll be in Beacons Bar, by the main entrance. We held the first event there last night and it was great!
Seb: Will it be ready for the start of term?? looks like progress is very slow ![]() |
GlamSU: New B Block pictures up
GlamSU: Crunch
Bob: Yep, great times in there.
whitby200: Owwwwwwwww. so sad to see it happening!!! Is that shaft's and smiths getting demolished in the photo's?
Bob: Demolition has started last Friday.. make way!!
Kieran: When is it coming down then? it's been ages!
Owen: Good to see Glam getting a state-of-the-art development. The new Sports centre and Tyn y Wern will help too. Hope Pontypridd RFC do well in the brand new cross-border "British & Irish Cup" competition this season
Dave Malins: Bob that's not what the student body has told me...
GlamSU: New B Block photos are up as well as Glyntaff pics too.
Bob: Huw, top of this page, click Cardiff Campus image.
Huw A Jones: How about a students union for the Atrium Campus!? Huh?
Danielle: Oh i can't wait for the new union now it looks sooooo cool!
Bob: Dave, it's graduation this week so obviously no construction.
Dave Malins: £125 a year ago and now £130+.
Dave Malins: Yea, a fence proclaiming how great glamorgan is instead of getting on with construction. What on earth is the hold up? Furthermore I wish to see the accounts on all developments here, since it seems to have gone up in value...
gd: nice fence building there!
sian: the new building will only be sterile and empty if students don't engage with us. Surely students at Glam deserve the best facilites money can buy?
sian: the old building holds fond memories for a lot of people, but audits done in the recent past indicated that around a million quid would need to be spent to make it safe and fit for purpose for the next ten years.
whitby 200: Futhermore lets all look forward to a sterile empty union such as uels new development at their docklands campus!!
whitby 200: dboy u should try to understand my analogy before u type such drivel. Any hows all I'm sayin is that the union was the primary reason I came to glamorgan and therfore cannot see how it has become so outdated in such a short space of time!!!
Bob: It's me ![]() |
sian: I'm lovin this music bob. Who is it?
Robert: I don't remember the sky being quite that apocalyptically violet last week ![]() |
Bob: Take a look at the University's development website (above) to see the difference between the new and the old. I loved the old building but it needs much improvement.. for the greater good!
dboy: yes your right whitby a tin roof is much better than an ultra modern stylish union!
Sptf1re: Yeah Im still not sure y they are knocking it down, is it a structural problem? Inside is pretty modern and ive had a lot of good nights there. The new design looks loads better though!
whitby 2000: are u sure? U need to have a look around the rest of the uni's in GB. Worcester 4 example has a tin roof!!! Glam union is great and a primary reason why I studied here
dboy: it is broke.. an old run down 70s building is not what glam students want.
whitby 2000: great!!! getting ride of a perfectly good uni for absolutely no reason what so ever!!! A sad day for glam!! If it aint broke dont fix it!!!
Bob: I've got rid of the reflections and captured more days last week. all we need now is some demolition!! I was told early last week that it's been delayed by 2 weeks so hopefully next week we'll see some action.
Top gun: that was pretty darn good ! Its great to see life move like that. Simple and cool, keep it going and lets see even more.
Myself: I agree, get rid of the reflection. Sun rise and set was good though.
Danni: the cars and the sun moving are the best bits, but a good build up!
Firah: hey that was soo cool, all students looking like lil antz lol,
bob: ..and rise again! (must get rid of the reflection!)
Nick: I love the idea of the timelapse, will be awesome to see how the union will vanish ![]() |
sian: the big machines will be on site on Monday (22nd June), and the building will be coming down from then on. Yay!
DOOZE: WHENS THE SMASHY?
dboy: shame about the live camera but will be wicked 2 see the timelapse
TJ: Lets hope it all goes well...Although Glyntaff should be fun Great site Bob |
bob: we'll keep you posted Georgi ![]() |
